Amend Your 2007 Tax Return

Your information in TurboTax for tax-year 2007 includes both your federal and state returns. To amend your 2007 return, you use TurboTax 2007.

Note: After the tax-year filing deadline in October, TurboTax Online 2007 will be unavailable. To amend your 2007 return, you'll need to use TurboTax 2007 software for Windows or Mac. For free replacement software, contact us.

The steps to amend a 2007 return depends on the status of your information in TurboTax:

  • If you've not made corrections in TurboTax since filing your return, you'll use your original tax information to amend your return. (This is the most common scenario.) Your original amounts will flow to Form 1040X, and to complete the form, you'll enter the corrected amounts. See the steps for TurboTax for Win/Mac or the steps for TurboTax Online.
  • If you've made corrections in TurboTax since filing your return, you'll use your revised tax information to amend your return. Your corrected amounts will flow to Form 1040X, and to complete the form, you'll enter the amounts from your original return. For steps, see Amend Your Return Using Revised Tax Information.
Note: You might need to file an amended return if you filed your return prior to a TurboTax update that affects the information on your return. This scenario is not common. Compare the copy of your original return with your updated return in TurboTax. If the taxable income and total tax amounts differ on the two returns, you'll need to amend your 2007 return. For steps, see Amend Your Return Using Revised Tax Information.
